The shuttle Columbia was destroyed as it reentered the atmosphere on Feb. 1, 2003. I am a reporter and covered the mission and the aftermath for my newspaper.

In some ways, 2003 was the chase that didn't happen. While I saw a few storms, and made it to Tornado Alley for just a few days, events conspired to keep me from a full-fledged chase. Read more about why, or look at some of the pictures I got in other travels during 2003, linked below.
