20 March 2018:
Tornado-warned storms, central Florida

March 20, 2018: Alethea Kontis and I headed west from Brevard County, targeting storms coming ahsore on Florida's west coast. I anticipated catching a cell west or just northwest of Orlando. City chasing is horrible, but we still managed to catch a tornado-warned storm, briefly.

We headed west, targeting storms as they came onshore from Florida's west coast and approached central Florida. Ragged mammatus filled the sky above Altamonte Springs at 1:27 p.m.
We targeted this tornado-warned storm west of Orlando. Traffic, buildings and trees made it very difficult to get into position to see anything.
The green color in the storm suggested hail, though a quick phone snapshot didn't show it very well.
Finally, we had an obstructed view of the tornado-warned storm in west Orlando at 2:19 p.m.
Here's a shot through the windshield at 2:25 p.m. There's a suggestion of a lowering at left beyond the rain shaft, but no tornado was evident.
The storm swept by us, and traffic and its speed prevented us from catching it. It became outflow-dominant, and we were hammered by hurricane-type winds and rain as we drove east.
Here's a panorama of the tornado-warned storm - looking north between Conroy Road and the turnpike on the west side of Orlando at 2:28 p.m. (Four-image panorama)
