March 29, 2014:
Tornado-warned Florida storms

March 29, 2014: A tornado watch issued this morning for all of central Florida had me eyeing the sky. Several storms in a bowing line prompted tornado warnings, so I went to track them down and met the line on S.R. 520 - west of the St. John's River but south of 528. I was quite close to one of the warned circulations and even saw a Scary Looking Cloud that had a great tornado look about it - but was really an optical illusion as the leading edge of the bow passed by. March 29, 2014, offer a chance to chase tornado-warned storms in central Florida. I caught up with the bow northwest of Cocoa and south of 528 on S.R. 520.
Here's my position in relation to the rotation that prompted one of this day's tornado warnings. Photo courtesy RadarScope app
There was interesting structure and motion in these clouds.
I didn't see anything convincing in terms of rotation looking north.
But then, looking just to the west, this was one Scary Looking Cloud.
Though it had a tornado-like appearance, it seemed to be the leading edge of the line.
Oh, but it sure was scary looking - a great faux tornado.
Here you see the edge of the cloud just after it passed - no tornado.
The line lashed the area with high winds and rain (see video).
A parting shot from the boat ramp on the St. John's River.
