June 10, 2012: Storms were bouncing around Florida on June 10, but I was waiting and hoping they might come to me. I went out about 9 p.m. EDT to intercept a severe storm moving toward the east coast. I couldn't get in good position to see cloud-to-ground lightning, which mostly seemed buried in rain, but as the storm appeared to die on radar, the lightning crawlers started in the anvil. I ended up with a lot more than I expected! Share

With a severe storm headed toward Brevard County, Florida, the night of June 10, 2012, I drove west of Cocoa to get a look.

From central Cocoa, the clouds looked ominous.

Lightning lit up the sky.

I drove south to Rockledge as the storm moved south.

Even as it weakened, it produced nice anvil crawlers.

This one seemed to explode from one point.

Out of the tree...

A few mammatus could be discerned behind the bolts.

Wow! Love this lightning crawler.

It's interesting how lightning crawlers persist or get better as a storm weakens.

Here, the lightning seems to come from all sides.

I wish I'd had a camera pointing straight up for this lightning!
