storm gallery: August 19, 2009

August 19, 2009: I went out late in Rockledge, Florida, hoping to catch lightning from a storm moving north-northeast into Brevard County. It sent out an outflow boundary; though I saw little lightning, this layered shelf cloud was eerily lit by ground lights and made for interesting photos. Share

I photographed this eerily lit shelf cloud. There wasn't much lightning, but the blue light shows a little in the rain. A couple of little lightning bolts light up the rain.

You can see layers in the east-moving shelf cloud/outflow boundary. It's almost past me. Lights on the ground made the cloud look like the surface of Jupiter.
