storm gallery: May 10, 2009

May 10, 2009: After a big lunch at Sodolak's Original Country Inn in Snook, Texas, where I got to try the original chicken-fried bacon, I decided my target for the day was around Tyler, Texas. I knew the dynamics were weak, but given scarce storm chances, I thought I'd take a chance. Storms fired in the target area, including one I followed that looked promising until it pretty much collapsed on itself. It wasn't worth the drive. Share

Sodolak's Original Country Inn in tiny Snook, Texas, is famous for chicken-fried bacon. The battered, deep-fried strips are served with gravy. I caught up with a line of storms near Rusk, Texas, in my target area, but given the weak dynamics, they didn't get very powerful. As seen in Rusk, weak inflow feeds into a small storm behind a bigger storm near Tyler.

I kept an eye on the tower as I drove north. Cool fence. Ride the wave? As I got into the rain, I was fascinated by this cloud feature, which I assume was rain-cooled air. I didn't see smoke.

When your storm dies, you might as well take wildflower photos.
